New Cross Fit gym comes to Mississauga!

When people think of Cross Fit, usually one word comes to mind – HARD! Which can sometimes be a deterrent for many to try Cross Fit exercises. This doesn’t have to be so because contrary to popular belief, Cross Fit training can be easy and fun; as the workouts are tailored to your individual needs. From beginners to experienced athletes, there are workout and nutrition plans for everyone! We are so thrilled to open the doors of our new gym  – PSB Fitness! Cross Fit at a glance – What is it?

It is a form of High Intensity Training that is strength and conditioning workouts made up of functional movements like squatting, pulling pushing etc.

Workouts are fun and can include different categories that include Bodyweight exercises and weighted exercises with kettle bells, battle ropes, TRX bands and other great stuff to get that heart rate up 🙂

Most of the workouts have female names and we will explore a few workouts from the Body weight beginner category and the Weighted category:

1. Cindy – Body Weight Only

AMRAP – As Many Rounds as Possible. As the acronym implies, the individual performs as many rounds as possible of the given exercises for a set amount of time. Cindy is a 20-minute workout.

5 pull-ups
10 push-ups
15 squats

2. Barbara – Body Weight Only

Five rounds with three minutes of rest between each round. Time each round.

20 pull-ups
30 push-ups
40 sit-ups
50 squats

3. Helen – Weighted

Three rounds for time using a 1.5 pood kettlebell. A pood is a Russian unit of measurement for kettlebells. One pood is 36 pounds, 1.5 pood is 54 pounds, and 2 pood is 74 pounds. If an individual does not have a kettlebell, they can use a dumbbell instead. Approximate dumbbell equivalents are 35, 55, and 70 pounds.

400-meter run
21 kettlebell swings
12 pull-ups

4. Jackie – Weighted

Jackie consists of just one round and only three movements. The workout starts with 1000m row, followed by 50 lightweight thrusters and is finished with 30 pull-ups.

Now let’s talk Nutrition!

As most people are aware, In order to achieve results in any program; you need to follow the 80/20 rule. Where 80% is Diet and 20% is exercise.

A healthy balanced diet program will include carbs, protein and fats. Whether done via regular intervals of 3 meals a day, increased intervals of small portions or Intermittent fasting.

Regular Intervals of 3 meals a day

Eat Breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a Pauper.

Increased intervals of small portions

Eating 6 meals a day in smaller portions vs the traditional 3 meals a day.

Intermittent Fasting

16:8 rule – Fast for 16 hours and Eat during an 8 hour period.

But don’t worry, you won’t have to figure this out on your own as our experienced Trainers are here to provide meal plans for you to achieve your goals!
